Athens is a cool place for teens and youngsters to express their energy and appetite for fun and adventure. The young Athenians are up on the latest lifestyle fads and fashions. Bicycle Riding Although Athens boasts a traffic-busy centre, it also has surrounding hills and coastal promenades that do lend themselves to enjoying a bike ride. Ice Skating in Greece? That's right. Thanks to outdoor mobile ice rink technology (that withstands warmer temperatures) Athens now features several ice rinks at its squares throughout the region. The rinks begin their seasonal debut in late November and early December and last through early February. Further out towards Sounio in Agia Marina it boasts 3 beach bars, changing rooms, lounge chairs, a volleyball field, live bands on Friday & Saturday, and a DJ on Sundays. Karavi Schinias beach and water sports club (www.karavi.gr; +30 6944361675) 42 kms (26 miles) north-northeast of Athens, near the historical city of Marathon Karavi offers an unparalleled experience for all water-sports and beach-sports enthusiasts as well as for those wishing to just relax in the sun.

Teen Shopping  Teens love to shop. And Athens' varied shopping scene and (Pericleous, Aiolou, Mitropoleos and Ermou Streets) feature hundreds of shops with the latest fashions for teens. Several new malls have opened in just the last few years, an indication of the ever-thriving shopping culture in Athens: The Mall (www.themallathens.gr)located next to the Nerantziotissa train station on the Attiki Odos, houses over 200 different brand name commercial chains, restaurants and cafés, movie theatres and recreational areas. Golden Hall(www.goldenhall.gr), also in Marousi, is a smaller mall focusing more on high-end shopping and dining. 131 national and international commercial fashion brands and elegant restaurants and cafes are here. Next door to Golden Hall, is Avenue(www.avenuemall.gr) with its impressive open-air rooftop. Closest to the city centre on Pireos Street is Athens Heart (www.athensheart.gr) and Attica the Department Store (www.atticadps.gr).

 STREET FOOD  Fast food, popular with the teens is always cost-friendly and doesn't have to be unhealthy if you choose something appropriate. Everest the coffee and sandwich chain (www.everest.gr) has sandwiches and is open late; Goody's (www.goodysnet.gr) has pasta, burgers and sandwiches; Gregory's and Coffee Right (www.gregorys.gr): spinach, cheese pies and sandwiches. After clubbing young locals eat crepes at a Creperie or a canteen called Vromiko (loose translation, cool "dirty" street food). One of the most famous is at Plateia Mavili near some of the watering holes or potadika nearby. Good souvlaki can be had at several locations in Monastiraki some popular are Thanassis in Monastiraki Square, Savvas www.kebapsavvas.gr; and Bairaktaris at Monastiraki Square; also downtown are Pitta tou Pappou; Pitta Pan www.pitapan.gr and in Kolonaki, Kalamaki.
 


Dance the night away (for youngsters at least 18 years old)  When you want to dance, these clubs provide the ideal setting: great music, good looking people and, in the summer, venues with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean. In the winter: Venue on Pireos Street, Villa Mercedes in Rouf and Baraonda in Ambelokipoi. In the summer:Akrotiri in Ag. Kosmas (2nd tram stop at Agios Kosmas), Island and disco classic Vinilio(www.discovinilio.com) in Varkiza.
